Through the Looking Glass, Umeda

Posted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 7 March 2007 in Abstract & Conceptual.

Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future.

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Kukushka from Toronto, Canada

Was about to say that it's a very surrealistic picture and then saw the category where you placed it. The picture is very strange and I think this is why I like it so much!

@Kukushka: Thanks very much Kukushka!

Jami from Atlanta, United States

I agree, very surreal, I love the color saturation.

@Jami: Cheers Jami. It is quite a heavily cropped and processed image. Don't normally fiddle around so much, but I was trying to salvage a bit of a crummy photo. I'll post the original tomorrow in case you're interested!.

Stu from Kyoto, Japan

wow. lots going on here. difficult to make heads or tails of it. is it layers....or as the title suggests, simply looking through a window. super mindbending shot.

@Stu: Cheers Stu. It was a shot out the front door of an izakaya (hence the reversed kanji) to the scenery on the wall opposite. The image wasn't very good, but I thought this small section was salvageable, and I did a bit of tuning to it until I had it 'abstracted' to my satisfaction. I'll post the original tomorrow so you can see...

Craig Persel from Montreal, Canada

Excellent. Very graphic and surreal.

@Craig Persel: Thank you Craig.

Michael Zhang from New York City, United States

Excellent overlay of different elements from the glass. Great colors.

7 Mar 2007 11:36pm

@Michael Zhang: Cheers Michael!

Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, Australia

Great stuff mate, the treatment you've applied here is very effective, the hare on the right of frame takes this scene to a whole other level of surreal. Excellent.

8 Mar 2007 2:53pm

@Chris Sullivan: Thanks Chris.

Alfredo J. Martiz J. from Tokyo, Japan

Great shot Daroru, interesting elements in the composition!

@Alfredo J. Martiz J.: Cheers Alfredo.
