Home Sweet Home

Posted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 9 October 2007 in Miscellaneous.

Not a lot of artistic merit to this one - I pass this house nearly every day on the way to the station. Every time I see it I think to myself "I wonder how their renovations are going?". Then it suddenly dawned on me yesterday - I've lived around here for nearly three years. In that time, this has looked exactly the same. There are no renovations going on! This is just a pile of rubbish! How do people live like this?

(Apologies if this is your house, or if you have a similar pile of junk at yours that you can't be bothered to get rid of)

Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future.

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Amir from ?, Iran

Oh my God. This is actually good. I have seen house in the States that is not even suitable for pigs. But some people live in them. People have different standards when it comes to cleanliness and mess.

@Amir: I don't understand it at all Amir. I wonder what the inside is like?

Richard_Irwin from Belper, United Kingdom

Oh dear, they need to get some serious cleaning up going on.

Well spotted, though I expect you could hardly miss seeing this mess every day....ha ha

it never ceases to amaze me how people live...I could NEVER ever be that way

@Jen: It is hard to understand Jen...

I could show you worse. Like for example, my next door neighbour's yard, whose mess is visible from Google Earth. Last year he decided the best way to clean up was to burn it all in an oil drum he happened to have on site. When then flames reached our second-storey window, I phoned the fire department.

Anyway, nice collection he has. I recognise a koinoburi pole at the top of the pile.

@Damon Schreiber: Wow! Good eyes Damon. What happened with your neighbour? Did the fire department come? Shocking...

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

There are houses all over the place here much worse than this one. I've seen houses with several cars parked in the yard --all filled to the brim with trash. And I've seen houses with enough junked cars, old washing machines, and other stuff, to look like a junkyard.

@Twelvebit: That's you, Damon and Amir who have seen worse Twelvebit... Don't suppose you have any photos? I'm really curious about this. I don't get how people don't care or take any pride in their living environment (then again, when I think about the state of the world as a whole...)

yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greece

you must lead a river to this place to clean up

@yiannis krikis: Good idea yiannis!

Pouhou from Apeldoorn, Netherlands

time to move on

@Pouhou: Me or the people living here Pouhou?

Damon Schreiber from Toronto, Canada

Oh yes the fire department came into his back yard with their hoses and axes. They put out his fire (which was probably a bit out of control by then) and gave him a good tongue lashing as well.

@Damon Schreiber: Good!
