Very nice perspective. What on earth is "Love Drugs"

11 Oct 2007 4:27pm

@Amir: It's just the name of a pharmacy chain...

Wolfgang Prigge from Canada

No, I don't speak Japanese, I just bought a MacBook Pro and it has something called widgets, that is internet based applications that allow you do do a lot of things. One widget is a translator where you can translate into 16 different languages. I know French, English and German well, and enough of Dutch, Italien and Spanish to know if it looks right, but for Chinese, Russian, Korean and Japanese I have to trust the translator blindly. This was the first chance to test Japanese, so I'm glad it seems to work....

@Zing: Yes!

aaxan from Tokyo, Japan

Interesting! I still can't get it though. What do they want to say?

If I'm right "くすりのラブ" means "the Love of Medicine" and "Love Drugs" means Drugs of "Love" and they just don't match.
Or they want to say they love Drugs? and therefore it should be "くすりへのラブ", right?

Little help over here Pls?

12 Oct 2007 6:44am

@aaxan: productshop/company name is the common way to identify a shop in Japanese. So for example a barbeque restaurant called "Yamada" could be called "Yakiniku no Yamada". As "Love" is the name of the pharmacy, it's called "Kusuri no Love" in Japanese.

Claudio from Porto, Portugal

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

I love the way signs and titles translate from Japanese into English. Where else do you get titles like "Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World" and "Wind-Up Bird Chronicle."

@Twelvebit: Thanks Twelvebit.
