Sendai JyagarikoPosted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 20 November 2007 in Food & Cuisine. Another in an occasional series of pictures of souvenir snacks from around Japan! http://digitalguff.aminus3.com/image/2007-07-28.html This time the jyagariko (best snacks ever) are zunda flavour, from Sendai. Zunda is mashed up soybeans - a local speciality. Thanks to my wife who scours the country, bringing me this stuff. Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future. I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomAmazing that each snack packet has a different graphic, thats cool. But what were they like, were they 'the best snacks ever'? 20 Nov 2007 8:41am @Richard_Irwin: Great attention to detail in design in Japan! The guy at the bottom right made me look twice... These ones had a definite soy bean after-taste (have you ever had Japanese edamame?) combined with the regular yummy Jyagariko taste... you just have to come to Japan to get that, I never had any crisps in England to compare it with I'm afraid... @DaveB: Cheers Dave! Wolfgang Prigge from Granby, Québec, CanadaInteresting stuff, I guess I'll have to put Japan on my list of "to do" places... 20 Nov 2007 5:10pm @Wolfgang Prigge: You should Wolfgang! @TravBoy: Cheers TravBoy. Daniel from stranded in kenmare, United Statesthat is so green it hurts the eyes! 28 Nov 2007 5:08am @Daniel: Sorry about that Daniel... Koen from Antwerp, BelgiumWacky japanese candy packs... love them, I often visit a japanese store in Antwerp where they sell this stuff. The colous and illustrations... its just crazy... 28 Nov 2007 2:09pm @Koen: Do they sell Jyagariko Koen? If they do please try them! @Twelvebit: Me too Twelvebit! Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesOh yeah, as Richard said, the one bottom right is very amusing. You can't help but wonder if this visual double entendre is a conscious part of the design, especially since the giraffe looks far more satisfied than he has a right to be from merely stirring a bowl of soybeans. 29 Nov 2007 2:31pm @Twelvebit: ! |
