Make a WishPosted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 21 November 2007 in People & Portrait. Schoolgirls at Kiyomizu Dera, Kyoto. Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future. I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Jason Kravitz from Brussels, Belgiumthis is a nice moment - these two young ladies look quite enthralled with this activity. Do they write a wish on a piece of paper and put it on the line? 21 Nov 2007 9:50am @Jason Kravitz: Thanks for the visit Jason. The pieces of paper have a 'fortune' written on them and are called omikuji; I found this Wikipedia page about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omikuji You buy the pieces of paper at the shrine or temple - as Wikipedia says, it's like a lottery. If you get a bad fortune, you stick it on a pine tree, or like these girls are doing, tie it onto strings set up near pine trees. martie from Okinawa, JapanWonderful picture. I wonder what they are talking about! 21 Nov 2007 12:10pm @martie: Thanks martie. Maybe discussing everyone else's bad luck?! M.E. from Encino, United Statesvery cool! i like how you partially showed their expression! M.E. too wonders what they're saying to each other and what they wished for... 21 Nov 2007 4:50pm @M.E.: Thank you M.E! Check out my reply to Jason... @Wolfgang Prigge: Thanks Wolfgang! Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaWow, that's a fantastic portrait, such life and mystery to it! 23 Nov 2007 11:06am @Lorraine: Cheers Lorraine! @pedro alexandre: Thanks pedro. Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesDid you get caught in the act of taking their photo? 29 Nov 2007 2:33pm @Twelvebit: No, I was in and out like a flash! Everyone's taking photos everywhere anyway, they probably thought I was taking the trees. Cheers Twelvebit. |
