I'm going to be away for a new year holiday until the 6th of January, so apologies for not being able to respond to any comments for a while. Will catch up when I get back. Happy New Year!

Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future.

Hey, that's a subtle insight into what January 1st is like for many of us. Mind you, it wasn't for me as my one-year-old daughter ensured I was in bed by 10 pm (and out of bed at 1:30 am, again at 3:30 and finally up in time to see the NYE revelers arriving home at 6 am). But I appreciate the angled perspective and have taken the liberty of breathing heavily onto myself with that alcohol-based enthusiasm I have come to expect with this time of the year.

I hope yours was a memorable one. Did you venture to a shrine/temple as is the norm? I did that one year in Kyoto and loved every moment of it (even if/perhaps because I wasn't hungover).

@Sash: Thanks Sash. Went to a shrine on the 1st on Shikoku which I took plenty of pictures of. I'll be posting some before long I hope (got to sort through all the shots from my trip first...)
