Saba SushiPosted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 4 February 2008 in Food & Cuisine. More sushi on display at a fish market in Kochi city, Shikoku. Saba is mackerel in English. This fish is slightly grilled (aburi in Japanese). Saba can have quite a strong 'fishy' taste I think when you have it raw, but this was so fresh, and with the grilled taste, it was absolutely delicious. Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future. I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaWow, never had that...never saw that, I'd try it in a second...gosh I want sushi now! lol great photo Daroru! 4 Feb 2008 12:22pm @Lorraine: Cheers Lorraine! Japanalia from Yokohama, JapanWOW!!! My husband likes saba!!! I can eat it, but I find rather fat...that is it leaves a fat feeling in your mouth after eating it! If you fry it at home.....you're in for a fishy fragrance all day long! You found a most appetizing angle here! I dare say.....you're teasing us! 4 Feb 2008 12:39pm @Japanalia: I know the smell after you've cooked saba Gabriela! Although I do like it cooked, more so than raw. It is an oily fish - but fish oil's good, no? This one in the photo was the best raw saba I've ever had. I was a bit dubious before trying it, but... no fishy taste! vu@granby from Granby, Québec, CanadaI like sushi but this is the first time that I've seen those packed with head and tail. I'm willing to make a try. vu@granby - Gilles Martineau 4 Feb 2008 4:34pm @vu@granby: It's good Gilles - some people eat the head too. danthro from Suburbia, United Statesi don't usually like the kind of oversaturated color look but for some reason it works okay here. neat color. 4 Feb 2008 5:59pm @danthro: Thanks danthro.
