Willie WinkiePosted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 16 February 2008 in Miscellaneous. A chain of bakeries I kept seeing all across Shikoku on my New Year trip. Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future. I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesThat's funny, especially when you consider what "willie" and "winkie" are slang for in English. 18 Feb 2008 11:45pm @Twelvebit: I have absolutely no idea what you mean Twelvebit.... Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesOk, I'll get explicit, strictly for "educational" purposes. The origin of the term, and probably the reference as used here, is a Scottish nursery rhyme --where Wee Willie Winkie is something like The Sandman. However, both "willie" and "winkie" are slang terms for penis. So when Bill Clinton was president and referred to as "Slick Willie" the nickname had a double (or even greater) meaning. Winkie country is also the land ruled over by the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz. 20 Feb 2008 4:52pm @Twelvebit: Thanks Twelvebit. I was joking when I said I had no idea what you meant... that's the whole reason why I took the photo! But thank you for clarifying for others who may happen along here...! Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesIn retrospect, I should have caught your tongue-in-check tone there with the ellipsis points. 21 Feb 2008 4:32pm @Twelvebit: Ha ha! Difficult to catch tone of voice when typing... |
