...and then it won't be long 'til Christmas!Posted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 24 July 2008 in Miscellaneous. Only 3 months until Hallowe'en! I can't wait! Although I suspect the people in this house are even more excited about it, judging from this photo I took last week. Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future. I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

@Makoto: Cheers Makoto! Lorraine from CanadaLOL, great find Daryl, someone people around here have started putting Decorative X-mas LIghts outside....you have to wonder if they've ever heard of living the moment lol 24 Jul 2008 12:31pm @Lorraine: I guess they could be living in the moment so much they forgot to take down last year's decorations! Cheryl from Texas, United StatesLOL, good eye Daryl. too funny. I guess they are excited for it to get here! all behind the burgler proof window, how inviting is that..:-) 24 Jul 2008 12:35pm @Cheryl: Thanks Cheryl! Actually those windows are very typical in Japan! @Kent: Cheers Kent! Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South Africawow - gearing up for halloween already.....boy those people must really enjoy that holiday!!! :) what a great find, nice shot 24 Jul 2008 5:49pm @Mandy Provan: Thanks Mandy! Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomLet's get throught summer first.... :-| You mentined that they are typical windows.... why, is there burglers around? 24 Jul 2008 8:02pm @Observing: Japan's pretty safe in that regard... I don't know what the criss-crossed windows are for actually, but they are normal. Maybe resistance for earthquakes? I will have to ask around... never paid it any attention until you guys mentioned it! Many ground floor apartments and houses will actually have solid bars in front of the windows - so I don't think this is really an anti-burglary thing. @valenttin: Maybe, but Hallowe'en is definitely getting more popular here each year! @kiji: It sure is! Thanks kiji. danthro from Suburbia, United Statesneat capture, like the colors and atmosphere. this might be a dumb question, but do they celebrate halloween in Japan too? 25 Jul 2008 4:48pm @danthro: Cheers danthro! It's getting more and more popular with children. Come October, there'll be decorations around and Hallowe'en sweets and things in the shops. I don't think anyone knows what its history is though, they think its just another "American" import (people are always surprised to hear its not American) that's fun for kids! Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesHalloween --my personal religious holiday. The linkage with Christmas was pretty well defined in the Tim Burton film, The Nightmare Before Christmas. 30 Jul 2008 5:03pm @Twelvebit: Very much! Cheers Twelvebit. Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesGreat cultural shot. I noticed that the Japanese observe several western celebrations. Christmas, Valentine's Day and Halloween being three for sure. My wife and I were in Kyoto a couple of years ago and had dinner at a restaurant. The server brought us a delicious pumpkin custard for desert, at no charge, because it was Halloween. We were surprised because we had forgotten what day it was. 28 Aug 2008 3:34pm @Steve Rice: Yeah, it's kind of odd hey? @marc j: Thanks marc! And also, today, a morning TV show had a feature on all the Hallowe'en goods you can buy in the shops... |
