Evidence of Societal Collapse

Posted by Daryl Johnson (Farnham, United Kingdom) on 28 July 2008 in Miscellaneous.

Sorry to be a nosy neighbour, but this shirt has been hanging here well over a month. What's going on? This isn't an empty apartment; has the owner forgotten this shirt? Do the people never go out on the balcony? This flag of chaos taunts me every day - why don't the residents notice it? What is happening to the world...? I'm confused... don't understand...

Although I'm now in England, this blog will still feature photos from Japan for the foreseeable future.

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Chris Chisu from Seattle, United States

ha,ha...is ok....it is part of the environment...lol...See, if it wasn't there you wouldn't have gotten a picture of it...and is a good picture.

@Chris Chisu: Thanks Chris!

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

Daryl, evidence that people live in their little boxes and shut the world out. Did somebody die maybe....? has nobody taken the bother to inquire. Great observation and social document.

@Observing: Cheers Mike!

Lorraine from Gatineau, Canada

ah ah indeed, this is funny, unusual yet very appealing photo, I enjoy the colours, ps maybe you should be a good neighbour, and kinda mention it....;)

@Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine. I'm not getting involved! They are clearly out of their minds.

Hikari from Kumamoto, Japan

Hi Daryl!, your comment is so right! , these are my first months in here but I already noticed that this is not Spain...people is nice but they keep it so deep inside....just getting use to...
Keep it up!

@Hikari: Thanks Hikari! Do you have a Renegade Shirt-Hanger in your neighbourhood too?

lucie from san francisco, United States

maybe they are on vacation!!

@lucie: Ah! Good point!!

Richard_Irwin from Belper, United Kingdom

Smart observation, the shirt just stands out as a bit of welcome chaos in the formality of the ordered brickwork tiling of the building.....maybe the owner is making a social statement...LOL

@Richard_Irwin: Cheers Richard!

Jrask from Pasadena, United States

Quite the mystery you've got there. Quite a nice shot too, the textures on the building are great :)

@Jrask: Thanks Jrask!

Cheryl from Texas, United States

hmmm, looks like a clothespin bag to me..why would that be hanging outside the patio?? "out of sight, out of mind," as the saying goes. I love the lines in this image.

30 Jul 2008 12:51am

@Cheryl: Thanks Cheryl. It's definitely a t-shirt, I see it every day and have checked carefully!

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

You're not having us off are you? That's not your t-shirt by any chance? Still, something very Japanese about this image --in spite of the shirt. It reminds me of an image from "Pulse" by Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

30 Jul 2008 4:57pm

@Twelvebit: I am not having you off, or even on; and once more you have advantage of me with your knowledge of Japanese cinema! Thanks Twelvebit!

Doug from Long Beach, United States

@Doug: Thanks Doug!... oh; you mean them, not me...

Dipanjan Mukherjee from Bangalore, India

I like that shirt.. and I would like to thank your neighbour for keeping it there...that is the only sign of life in that apartment...otherwise everything is so graphical in that shot."that shirt is a contradiction..nice shot".

3 Aug 2008 5:26pm

@Dipanjan Mukherjee: Thanks Dipanjan!

SPunkt from -, Germany

Maybe it's a political statement?

6 Aug 2008 8:26pm

@SPunkt: Who knows eh? Anyway... it's now gone!
