View of Hiwasa from Yakuoji Temple

Posted by
Daryl Johnson (Worcester Park, United Kingdom) on 18 January 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

Hiwasa town, Tokushima prefecture. You can just see Hiwasa Castle on the right side, and you can see Snail Island in the middle of the top of the shot - can anyone guess why it's called Snail Island?

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Because it looks like a like how you chose the vantage point and all the S lines in the picture leading to the snail.

Wolfgang Prigge from Canada

Good one, maybe a little more of the castle would have been better, the light of the low sun is perfect, and the snail shape of the island comes out really well.

@Wolfgang Prigge: Thanks Wolfgang!

I would like to see a little bit more of the left side

19 Jan 2008 4:24am

@Pouhou: Believe me, you don't want to...

Aayawa from Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Very good, The perspective makes it seem flat, like a Hiroshige print.

@Aayawa: Thanks Aayawa.

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

Very nice. It reminds me of one of the little fishing villages I've seen in an Ozu movie.

20 Jan 2008 4:04pm

@Twelvebit: It is basically a small fishing town. I think this time of year, and in the summer, when sea turtles come to lay their eggs, are busy seasons, but it is probably very peaceful usually in Hiwasa.

ZENTY from Brescia, Italy
