Very late posting today!

Semi is Japanese for cicada.

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Observing from West Cheshire, United Kingdom

So what is cicada ? It's an extreme macro of something horrible. Excellent shot.

12 Aug 2008 4:38pm

@Observing: Thanks Mike. It's a very noisy, very big insect, and Japan is full of them in summer!

Veronelle from Lens, France

@Dawn Sutherland: They're harmless though Dawn! You've got cicadas where you live don't you?

Luis A. De Jesus R. from Mexico City, Mexico

Man, I second Veronelle. It looks monstrous, like one of those 1950 B movies.

@Luis A. De Jesus R.: Thanks Luis!

akarui from Kagoshima, Japan

There are very noisy now isn't it. Not so easy to see them in the trees.

13 Aug 2008 1:13am

@akarui: Very noisy indeed, although I think maybe they are starting to decline - they don't wake me so early these past few days!

Hikari from Kumamoto, Japan

Yes , I think you´re right , I´ve just realized they are almost no singing anymore...the crickets are replacing them at night , cri,cri...cri,cri...

13 Aug 2008 2:47am

@Hikari: They usually have their peak by mid August I think... one little step closer to autumn!

SPunkt from Stuttgart, Germany

Alien!!! Honestly, the thumbnail version looked even more so …

13 Aug 2008 6:51am

@SPunkt: It's a classic form that's inspired many anime and movie creature designs...
