Daily Living, Shirakawa-go 2

Posted by
Daryl Johnson (Worcester Park, United Kingdom) on 24 February 2010 in Landscape & Rural.

Shirakawa isn't exclusively made up of touristy gasshō-zukuri houses, as this wider perspective shows.

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Twelvebit from Victoria, United States

I take it farming is going on there too?

6 Mar 2010 9:26pm

@Twelvebit: Yes, like most local Japanese towns, farming was the main industry in the old days, and still continues in this typically small-scale way (this kind of location, up in the mountains, would have been very self-sufficient).

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

That's a lovely perspective!
