New House, 盛り塩

Posted by
Daryl Johnson (Worcester Park, United Kingdom) on 6 November 2011 in Lifestyle & Culture.

I am finally back posting photos on the blog after a long break - thanks mainly to the inability of Virgin Media here in the UK to be able to provide me with the internet service their advertising says they can supply. I ended up going with another provider, BT, and so far everything is OK.

I have heard equally good and bad reports about all the 'big three' TV / internet / phone providers in the UK - Virgin, BT and Sky. It seems to be pure random luck whether you happen to get good or bad service from any of them. They all seem to be much of a muchness.

This whole internet downtime came about from us moving to a new house, we've moved to a town called Worcester Park on the edge of London. This image is of morishio (盛り塩), a traditional Japanese use of salt to purify your environment and bring luck, which my wife was keen to put down when we moved to this new place. We now have these little dishes of salt in four corners of our house, a little touch of Japan here in south London!

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Yeah, we went with BT too ;-) Very interesting read, I'll show it to my (Japanese) wife as we have recently moved and could use some better luck!

@Hans ter Horst: Oh, where have you moved to? Good luck...!

Congratulations for the house-move and being, finally, just the two of you! Let your wife to the "cleaning" of the space with morishio...well, it seems she knows better than you do! What, with all those ghosts around, at least from the Middle Ages onwards, you badly need some protection!
Besides...that's a nice piece of pottery!
Wish you both good health, happiness will follow!

@Japanalia: Thanks Gabriela!

Congratulations on your new house! I enjoy the cone of purifying salt. It seems a great cultural tradition your wife has brought from Japan. Good luck with the internet provider. I think spotty service by the types of providers you mention is universal.

@Steve Rice: Thanks Steve, so far BT internet service has been good...
