Ryokan Ashiyu, Ibusuki 2

Posted by
Daryl Johnson (Worcester Park, United Kingdom) on 11 September 2013 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Enjoying a volcanic sand foot bath at our ryokan inn in Ibusuki. The wooden paddle you can see on the top right side is to compact the sand around your feet once they are buried. I can tell you from bitter experience, you need to make sure your feet are quite deep before pounding the sand on top with that very hard piece of wood...

I apologise in advance if I'm tardy with commenting on your blogs or returning comments during the week... I will get to you though!

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

A fine learning experience, Daryl. ;-)

@Steve Rice: The best kind, some would say Steve!

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Sorry to hear about the "bitter experience", Daryl. Hopefully this volcanic sand foot bath helped relieve the pain. :-)

@Steven: The water was better than the sand, I have to say Steven!

Richard Standley from Carquefou, France

A bitter experience but I presume the volcanic sand did soothe the pain!

@Richard Standley: Somewhat Richard, although the water was better... and the beer later even better.

Japanalia from Yokohama, Japan

Oh,no! I wouldn't even think of it! It's enough for me that I can stay a few minutes in an onsen pool.

@Japanalia: You really won't like my up-coming onsen pictures then Gabriela...!
